Talk to a scientist about experiment design, and they'll whip off a list of basic requirements. Startups are slowly adopting a "Science-ish" approach, but missing these fundamentals. I'd like to shed light on one of them, the positive control, which reveals whether or not the experiment itself failed (ie. bad landing page) or the hypothesis failed (ie nobody wants to buy this.) It also helps point out when the team is working on something that isn't making a pertinent difference to the business.
